Port Moody and Coquitlam host Celebrate BC, an expanded two day festival celebrating the people, cultures, communities and experiences that make British Columbia unique. Port Moody kicks things off on Saturday, August 1, when Rocky Point Park hosts the opening day of this year’s event.

The festival has been designed as an affordable, family friendly celebration that invites residents and visitors from across the region to enjoy two unforgettable days of entertainment, culture, food and community spirit, and Port Moody’s waterfront setting at Rocky Point Park makes for a fitting start to the long weekend.

What’s Happening at Rocky Point Park

Saturday’s program is built around the kind of morning-to-evening variety that makes for an easy day out with the whole family. Highlights include:

A blueberry pancake breakfast to start the day
Canoe paddle adventures on the water
An Indigenous artisan market featuring local makers
Traditional bannock
Live entertainment throughout the day
Family friendly activities and cultural demonstrations

A Festival Rooted in Community

The festival is made possible through the support of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation and Kwikwetlem First Nation, the Cities of Port Moody and Coquitlam, and a wide network of sponsors and community partners. Performers this year include George Leach, Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week, Hidden GEM, Dani Black and Venus and Mars, with more entertainment details to be announced closer to the event.

Recognizing that affordability remains a priority for many households, every food vendor will once again offer at least one ten dollar menu item, so families can plan a full day out without the cost adding up.

Now in its second year, Celebrate BC is a province-wide celebration of British Columbia’s history, cultures and people, bringing together Indigenous communities, newcomers and long-time British Columbians in a shared celebration of the province’s diverse heritage. The two-city format reflects that same spirit, giving the festival room to grow while keeping each day’s program rooted in its host community.

Make a Weekend of It

Port Moody’s Rocky Point Park day is only the start. The festival continues on Monday, August 3, at Town Centre Park in Coquitlam with an expanded lineup that includes BC’s largest wild salmon barbecue and the popular Fast and Furriest Corgi and Wiener Dog Races, so those who catch Saturday’s festivities in Port Moody can carry the long weekend forward with a second day of celebration close by.

Coquitlam’s day runs from 11 am to 7 pm and also features the Beautiful BC Photo Contest, presented by Sony, plus live music and cultural performances throughout the afternoon, giving visitors another full day of programming to look forward to after Saturday wraps up in Port Moody.
